‘As the users of health and medical services, consumers and carers can provide valuable input to health and medical research. If such research is to continue to provide high quality outcomes, it is important that consumer involvement in research and its ongoing development is facilitated. This includes participation by consumers as equal partners in the development of research goals, questions, strategies, methodologies and information dissemination.’ (National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC)’s Statement on Consumer and Community Participation in Health and Medical Research (2001)). If you would like to read more about participation in clinical research, you can access the full NH&MRC document HERE.
In order to ensure that research projects advertised here on the CEDD website or on our Facebook page are bona fide, all researchers who submit their research projects on our website or face book page are asked to provide the following information – their name, academic institution and contact details; the name of their project and a brief synopsis; details of who they would like to recruit; Human Research Ethics Approval Number and the opening and closing date for recruitment.
It is up to you to decide whether or not you wish to participate in clinical research. Making an enquiry does not mean you have to participate. The researchers should provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision about whether or not you want to participate. Remember, if you choose to withdraw from the research at any time, you are free to do so.
