The NSW Eating Disorder Service Development Forum: Monday, 23 February 2015
More than 100 people attended this month’s NSW Eating Disorders Service Development Forum, at the Charles Perkins Centre.
Hosted by the Centre for Eating and Dieting Disorders in association with NSW Ministry of Health, the forum was attended by the eating disorders community, including representatives from all NSW Local Health Districts, presenters from Victoria and Queensland, specialists in the field of eating disorders, and people with lived experiences with eating disorders.
The forum discussed the implementation of the NSW strategy for Eating Disorders, launched in September 2013, and provided opportunities for learning and networking for those interested in and committed to improving service delivery for people with eating disorders.
In her opening speech, the Minister for Health and Minister for Medical Research, Jillian Skinner, spoke of her passion and commitment to eating disorders, referring to the centre and the forum as testaments to the tireless energy of those working for the services over the years.
In recognition of her support and leadership, the Minister was presented with a small gift by former patient Emily Baldwin. The Secretary of NSW Health, Dr Mary Foley, and the NSW Commissioner of Mental Health, John Feneley, also gave inspiring speeches.
The day was well received by LHD planners and clinicians alike, with practical workshops addressing key needs for service planners and providers within the LHD, and concluded with a Q&A session.
Prior to opening the forum, Minister Skinner and Dr Foley toured the newly opened Peter Beumont Eating Disorder Unit in the Professor Marie Bashir Centre at RPA with the Chief Executive of Health Infrastructure, Sam Sangster, the Chief Executive of Sydney Local Health District, Dr Teresa Anderson, the General Manager of RPA Deborah Willcox.
On behalf of the CEDD, Director Sarah Maguire would like to extend her sincerest gratitude and thanks to the Minister, Secretary and Commissioner, and all those clinicians and planners who attended the forum, and who worked tirelessly to ensure its success.
